Joyful hope!

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans.15:13

Dear readers,

A very late happy new year to you all! As we pass from one year to another, its good to consider our lives, be thankful for all that passed and pray for what’s to come. The above verse keeps coming back to me every so often and each time with such power. I don’t think I have fathomed the depth of it just yet!

I sometimes wonder how different my life would be if I never knew Jesus. In those moments I struggle to imagine, like a fish can’t imagine life outside the sea. I also think of those who don’t know Christ and how much they despair and feel really sorry for them. If only they knew they were made for so much more than mere living, for even that animals do. If only they knew they were not a random collection of atoms that happen to be here, but rather are created in the image of the Almighty, created to reflect His glory!

What I am trying to say is that because of Christ, we have such a great hope! And our God is the God of hope because He is One that never breaks His promises. And when we fully accept that truth, we are set free from uncertainties and anxieties of what will become of our lives, our future, our families… As a result we find joy and peace, because we also know that the God of love “who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? ” (Romans.8:32)

Therefore dear brothers and sisters, a year may come and go, but we have a God who is constant and unchanging. You may never know what this year holds for you, but you can rest, no… even rejoice and be at peace, because you have a loving Father who wants the best for you. Sit and wait at His feet, He will never disappoint!

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans.12:12

At the end of ME

“Give it a try, you got nothing to lose” a phrase we hear quite often. Yet it is in those moments that the true feelings of our hearts are revealed. Why don’t we try? Because we are afraid of failure. I absolutely detest that word, as I know everyone does. Failure reveals that we are weak, that we haven’t got it all together, that we are somewhat unable and inadequate. It’s not a great place to be, because it’s uncomfortable and because we are not in control.

We like structure, organised schedules and chaos is something we try to avoid, because we lose control. But that’s what we are, chaotic people. Even to the most organised people who think they are in control, there’s times when things just get out of hand. That’s the world we live in.

Nevertheless, we can dance in the rain, we can glory in our weaknesses, because, His word says:

“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.” – Matthew.5:3

Again Paul says in his writings:

“I take pleasure in weaknesses, in reproaches, in hardships, in persecutions, and in distresses for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” because Christ told him, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” – 2nd Corinthians.12:9-10

When we haven’t got it all together, when we feel lost of a plan and which way to turn, He is faithful to show up and do the leading. We may not like it cause we are only led one day at a time, we don’t see the end from here, but all we need is FAITH as small as a mustard seed.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are My ways higher than your ways,
and My thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah.55:8-9

WE CAN TRUST HIM.

So here at the end of me, where all my knowledge and my plans can’t help me, i can trust in HIS great wisdom. Amen.

I Should Be Engaged.

Corinne Steele

I want to be engaged this year. As of yesterday I’ve been on this earth for more than twenty-three years, and I think it’s about time for me to be engaged.

I’ve been asking people on my Home Team what one word they want to hold true for 2016, and when the question was finally reciprocated by my friend Sanford, I couldn’t come up with anything. I hadn’t found one that quite fit just yet.

I would  say seemingly meaningful words aloud to see if their meanings would hold any significance for what I want this next year to be.

I rustled up words like depth or rest or value and announced them to myself in the car or in the shower or on my walk to work. Nothing was clicking.

Until I drove to Joshua Tree yesterday morning, and that’s when a word so unexpected was whispered into the silence…

A gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit

God taught me a massive lesson, which I think applies to a lot of us in this generation. I think a lot of us are more worried about what others think of us more than what God thinks (Biblically speaking, seeking the honour of man). A couple of days ago, I got back from work and wondered whether I did something correctly. Some prescriptions have to have a legal wording on them to say whether they can be supplied on certain days; I couldn’t remember reading that. Knowing that it was a legal issue, I was so worried for the whole weekend whether supplying the medication to the patient was the right thing to do and couldn’t wait until it was Monday so I can find out whether I was saved or doomed. When the worry started, the Holy Spirit whispered something in my ears and I could feel Him place a mirror before me saying, “look at yourself”. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I was so worried sick about unconsciously violating a human law at work, whereas I saw God’s law no where near up to that standard. I took His word lightly.

As it does, the weekend passed with all it’s worry and anxiety and Monday came along. It can be imagined as to how much prayers and confessions has been made prior to entering work. Some how in me I knew that things would be alright and that this was a lesson God was trying to teach me, but I could never be sure. Anyway it turned out that the prescription did have the wording, the reason I didn’t remember reading it was that it was stamped as opposed to it being typed with the rest of the information on the script.

So what can be said? God uses every situation of our fall and rise for His glory. He teaches and corrects His children because He loves us. He is a loving Father and we can trust in His wisdom.

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You..” – Psalm.119:9-11

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.” – Jeremiah.31:33

“For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.” – Proverbs.3:12

360 degree Christian

Entering the working world has taught me how easy it is to fall into a trap of compartmentalised life, while putting God aside in one corner. We make plans each day, we decide. Work is this block of time that’s not movable and what you do with the rest of your little time left is another matter. I discovered that as a student I had flexible time, but now it’s all set and I need to fit/ shift/ change everything. Where does God come in here? With every turn I take, may He be there so that I can be a 360 degrees Christian. Because “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever more”,

It also taught me how difficult it is to settle in, as your values and life style are different from those around you. I realised that I couldn’t fit in/ blend. But… how can light mix with darkness? I was made to shine, to reflect God’s glory everywhere I go. So I will rejoice in my uniqueness, allow this treasure that’s kept in this jar of clay to radiate, until it is transformed into a full glory when it’s Lord comes back.

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” – 2Corinthians.4:7

Joy, joy, joy!

The month of July has been busy with so much joy that I haven’t experienced in a very long time. I truly felt God’s blessing shower over me as I partook in a summer re-union from my church back home (that rekindled my glimmering hope) and graduation. In all this I sought to glorify God and for Him to be seen in my life, regardless of how well or how bad I perform, because I am confident that my identity lies solely on Him. What a joy! No matter how much goodness and joy we experience in this world, it can never compare to the joy that awaits for us in heaven!!!

Just to share something that God taught me during the re-union. I went with an expectant heart that God would speak to me and on the first day, He did! A song by Casting Crowns – “I have a dream for you” was playing. It was the first time I was listening to this song but it really spoke to my heart as I really was anxious about what lay ahead following the completion of my degree. Isn’t the Lord wonderful?! He is never late nor too early, but just on time. He is definitely worth trusting because He is Ebenezer my God who brought me thus far and will carry me till the end.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.  (Psalm 34:18)

This is for me.
This is for you.
This is for the lonely, the tired, the alone, the single.
This is for “where are all the godly men and I’m not spending another dime on Christian Mingle.”
This is for the girl who huddles in the corner late at night hoping daddy won’t come home drunk and horny… again.
This is for the child whose parents sold her to a con man who promised them she would get an education.
Now she walks dusty streets trading her body for a few rupees.
This is for the boy who is afraid, with good reason to go visit his uncle’s house.
This is for the lapsed Catholic who wonders why that priest is not in jail… or at least defrocked.
This is for…

A Merry Heart ~

CHRISTian poetry ~ by deborah ann

~ CHRISTian poetry by deborahann ~Your Grace is Sufficent - IBible Verses

Whenever you feel down,
whenever sad and blue
I’ve a dose of medicine
I know is good for you.

Take a cup of God’s mercy,
sip it throughout the day
it comes with a guarantee
to keep depression away.

God’s grace is a cure-all,
for all that is ailing you
it’s the antidote you need
on the days you are blue.

You will have true peace,
your heart will be merry
as you learn to trust Jesus
your burdens, He will carry.

Whenever feeling down,
let God’s mercy lift you up
with a dose of good cheer . . .
found in grace’s loving cup!

but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
