The blessed stepping stones

8c10edeab66bc29273f744d236055105As a child, I absolutely loved going up and down stairs. Whenever I went for a walk with my dad, I had to go up and down every steps and every hill that we came across. But now that I am older, I try to avoid uphill steps wherever possible and choose the smoother path.

Let us all ask ourselves, don’t we all want to get anything in the shortest possible time with less effort? we can always learn something from our ‘little old self’ that was once a child, full of energy and enthusiasm for life.

When we get older, we don’t walk around searching for those uphill challenges, but they find us. And God doesn’t give us hills without steps to climb them. Yet, the will and effort of lifting our legs and moving from one step to the other lies within us. Before we start, we look at the long and exhausting way that is between us and the top, we lose hope and become faint just with the thought itself!

If we don’t have a prize that’s worth all the efforts of this uphill journey in the end, then where-in lies the motivation? What would be the purpose? If it’s not something that’s of worth, then what would keep you going to move forward from one step to the other?

The surety of your end goal makes your current journey not just bearable, but enjoyable. You don’t complain about the steps but thank God for them, because they are drawing you closer to the top.

The surety of your end goal also prevents you from stopping halfway through your journey, being attracted by the beauty on either side. You know you have something much better to come and you keep that constantly in sight.

Jeremiah.30:21 says, “for who is he who will devote himself to be close to Me?’ declares the LORD.”

What would we give to make this our end goal? What is the greatest goal in your life right now?

Paul said, “I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of His resurrection and participation in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death” (Philippians.3:10)

May the Lord give us grace to finish this race well!
