Not who you are, but Who you have!

11297Dear readers, I know I’m writing my new year’s post a little late. Nevertheless, this thought has been marinating on my mind, since before the new year…

First of all, I pray this year will bring you many blessings and much joy, as you get to know and experience the Lord even deeper!

Below I have pasted a small paragraph from Exodus 33 where God was having a conversation with Moses, as He often did – ever since the burning bush. Please read it prayerfully…

“12 Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”

14 The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

15 Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

17 And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”

18 Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.” – Exodus.33:12-18

I wonder how often Moses must have felt helpless to lead such a nation for the God of the universe. It’s quite a mission for an 80 odd years old man! Yet one of the beautiful characters of Moses is that he was always honest with God. Moses knew that neither his age nor strength will take this people any further and admitted his need for help. He asked, “whom will You send with me?” The answer was awesome! “My Presence will go with you…” What can be better than God Himself leading you!

Moses then reaffirms his faith by declaring that unless God’s presence go with them, there was no point in where they were going. Moses understood that God is the source of all good and purpose in life, and if He was absent from that story, the people were sure to perish in the desert.

“For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure.”  – Psalm.18:31-32

It’s because God was with this nation that they crossed the red sea, escaped Egypt and survived the hot desert as though they were walking through a cool forest. And as a result, all nations trembled, they wouldn’t dare play with fire, upsetting the God of Israel. He, Himself was their Chief Commander.

By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. – Exodus.13:21

Then God agrees with Moses, saying “I will go with you” and He adds a reason, “because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”  Here, Immanuel knew His people, not as some distant commander who just knows their names, but as a close friend and as one who really knows them from the heart. (John.10:14)

So dear readers, this new year we can make lots of resolutions and plans, but if God is not there, ask yourself ‘what is the point? and how far can I go, before I collapse in the desert’. We need His presence of cloud to shield us from the scorching sun of the enemy’s terror, His flame of fire to warm and comfort us from the chills of swayed politics and dislocated ethics of these days. Above all, we need His presence to guide us, navigating through the desert of a broken and difficult world to reach safely on Canaan’s land.

May God’s presence never depart from you this year!

God’s promise or my imagination?

I am currently on a busy placement, but thankfully I get an hour break for lunch, during which I reflect on a lot of things. Well last time God reminded me of the story of Joseph.

When God promised Joseph in a dream that he will be a king, he must have felt very sure it was God speaking. This lead him to sharing this good news with his family, who ended up ridiculing him for even thinking such a thought. I wonder if at that point he started wondering, “Is this from God, or just my imagination?”

Despite of what God showed him, everything that followed after seemed to go in the opposite direction to his dream.  He was sold a slave to Egypt, far away from the land he thought he’d be ruling soon. There God blessed his work and honoured him in his master’s house. At this point Joseph must have felt that he may earn enough favour to gain his freedom to return to his homeland. But it wasn’t going to happen, for soon he was sent to jail for a crime he didn’t commit! At this point Joseph was at his lowest, a slave prisoner, what hope does he have of even being free man, let alone to be king?? He must have felt stupid for even thinking and believing such thing, yet he knew God’s voice clearly and despite the odds he chose to believe the impossible.

God did promise, and even in the place where his dreams were as dim as a flickering candle light and so far away from happening, He  had greater plan. Joseph wasn’t just to rule over his father’s house but over the greatest kingdom at the time and thus to save nations from a famine that struck after a few years of his reign.

God’s plans and thoughts are higher than ours, and in the days when all hope is gone, we can hold on to the truth that God never lies.

Tired of waiting?

You’ve been waiting all day long

Your eyes have grown dim

Your legs grown numb

Your throat has dried up

With the scorching heat of the sun

When you prayed for hope

A glimpse of rain or cloud

You fear this may be your last

When it all becomes unbearable

And your eyes can only behold

The dryness of the land

Don’t lose hope keep it burning

It may flicker and grow cold

But it won’t ever turn off

For He is faithful God

He will provide the oil for your lamp

Peace for your mind and rest for your heart

Hold on to Him, He will never disappoint

He is faithful to those who trust.

We will not go

“21 By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.” – Exodus 13:21-22

This summer, I came across this wonderful song (below) that taught me a lot about waiting on GOD. God was leading the Israelites to the land that flows with milk and honey. But they had to wait for His timing and His directions. At times it was tough because it looked like God was quite for a long time and had left them, in which case they went astray, but God was merciful to them and eventually brought them to the promised land.  Can we relate? (1 Corinthians.10:11)

God does make us promises, but we should let Him lead us to know how we should go about obtaining those promises. Can a human really mess with what is divinely purposed? We have to let God be God and let Him lead us with a ‘pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night.’

“11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah.29:11

WE WILL NOT GO (Kelly Minter)

VERSE 1
Fire by night, cloud by day,
Our God will lead the way
Desert sand, or promised land,
Our God will lead the way.

PRE-CHORUS
Forever we will follow,
No matter what tomorrow holds.

CHORUS
We will not go, we will not move
We will not walk without your presence
We will wait for You.
The Great I AM, Almighty God
We are desperate for your presence,
Without You, we will not go.

VERSE 2
Troubled soul, when darkness comes,
Our God will lead the way
Joyful hearts, when blessings flow,
Our God will lead the way

BRIDGE
We will be still and know, we will be still and know,
We will be still and know that You are God.

Quiet trust

There are many things we ask God each time we pray, but do we stop to listen to what He has to say about them? Well God always answers, we just need to listen. Sometimes God says, wait. Yet thats the hardest thing for us who are living in a world where everything is instant. Its like sitting in the middle of a motorway, where lots of cars, buses and trucks are passing by you with speed up to 70mph. Its not easy to sit still as we get battered by questions, doubts and ‘what ifs’, but patience is being there in quiet trust and knowing that God is in control. This song speaks about it,

Its easy to look at the traffic around us and panic, but God slows the pace and helps us to see things from His perspective. I came across this video that tells of God’s majesty and glory, yet how He loved us, small insignificant people….

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you.
16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.” – Isaiah.49:15-16

“6. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.

18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,” – Psalm.33:6,18

Waiting on God

Sometimes it feel like you have been waiting on God for ages and you are not sure if your prayers are even reaching to Him at all. Are they just bouncing off the ceiling and if higher, off the atmosphere?

Sometimes people make it worse, “are you still trusting God, should you not just forget it.” However, be encouraged today, if God said something, He will do it. Regardless of the time it takes & the hopeless days and situations. I am convinced that especially with the things pertaining God’ s promises and His will, will come to pass no matter how we feel or what the situation looks right now.

Doubt to trust

Many of times I visited this place

This place of prayer and petition

Bringing all my request and burden

As doubt and questions keep ringing

In my head till my faith is shaken

Surely I say, God has heard

But if He chooses to be silent

Let me stop visiting Him in the mount

In that secret place of seeking His heart

Let me move on with my life

When I stop seeing through His eyes

I don’t recognize how close I am

As I crawled up this hill

He indeed carried me throughout

Now let me go back and trust

For I am close to the finish line

For surely He wasn’t silent

But was laboring with me in the fight

So today I come back

Again before You I lay my heart

Before I see Your face I won’t depart

Here at Your feet I leave all my doubts

As I rise with faith in my heart.

Treasure hunt

DSC04699Many times I walked through the forest

And looked and searched for the best

For the gold and silver, without rest

Hastily never wanting to wait

I take this and I take that but,

Never did they satisfy the longing in my heart

They weren’t enough.

Here is the secret of treasure hunting

Don’t settle for the traces of gold on your path

There is a Box full of gems and pearls

At the end of your track

All the treasures I was looking for

Are found in that One Box

Now I need not seek and search

For I have marked my destination

With a Cross on the map of my exploration.

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.” – 2Cor.4:6-7

Waiting

DSC04375Lord I wait for You as the clock ticks away

Yes I have been stood here all day

From dawn to dusk by the bay

I stand here and hope for the boat of answer

That comes with treasures from my Father

Lord I am waiting, as thirsty in a dry land

Feeble and weak reaching for Your hand

My feet fail me and say “give up running”

And my eyes “look away from that old

rugged cross and look around ”

But Father I know You’ll keep my heart

Now this is my prayer Lord

That You keep me strong

And as I wait for You

Like eagles on wings I will soar

Though the vision seems slow

It won’t delay but surely come.

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.” – Habakkuk.2:3
