Happy birthday Jesus

As we enter this season of joy and gladness, the happiness Christmas brings with it is just something we all look forward to. Nevertheless, in most cases that joy doesn’t even last past boxing day. Now Christmas is more commonly associated with materialism; the new iphone, ipad, new kitchen cabinet or jewellery etc. Real joy however, passes the stuff boxed in pretty wrapping papers, the nicely cooked turkey and of course Christmas pudding. That joy sees us through the hurdles and struggles, the joys and laughters of each day and the hope that one day we will see Him again. That joy, is the joy of our Saviour’s birth, the Divine’s love to lay aside His majesty to dwell in the midst of His people. The Joy of CHRIST’s birth 🙂

10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” – Luke.2:10-12

My Light

Even when the steps ahead are blurred

The road is dark and my torch flickering

Light of the world, I know You will lead

Even when the enemy whisper in my ears

And deafen me with condemnations

You are not worth the cost of His blood

You are not worth the price

For this very reason, I know Christ died

Even when my heart is confused

Trying to find a breakthrough

By attempting to figure out

The meaning of this life

And what I’m supposed to be

Here I am to live for His glory

Even when questions linger on my mind

When the answers seem mysteries to find

I know one thing today

Though He died for my sins

That old, wretched, blood stained cross

Is the reason of my existence

Even when my identity is just on a card

And my sense of belonging has been gone far

Feeling so out of place in this foreign land

Now I found a place to hide

A sanctuary for my soul to abide

Now He lives, the King of Kings

Seated on the throne

To lead His children home

I don’t deserve it at all

But to His free gift of grace to say no?

Is foolishness, as though I can please Him on my own

Jesus will lead the way, oh yes He will

To those who trust Him

No matter how deaf or blind

No matter how slow or fast the steps

Willingness of a broken heart is all He asks.

In God we trust

These few days I had been challenged to think about where I really put my trust. Struggling with some uni work meant that I could really do with some help, I was entitled to it, it was my right! Yet it wasn’t happening, which lead me to frustration and complaining. Then the Lord reminded me of a couple of verses in my very moment of despair:

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” – Psalm.20:7

Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them –
he remains faithful for ever.” – Psalm.146:5-6

It was really comforting to remember that my Heavenly Father has the whole world in His hands, and His help is way better than any earthly hands can offer. That’s enough for me.

A friend of mine also reminded me of this famous quote – “In God we trust.”

Christ’s love

I often find myself singing

How I love You my King

How much You mean to me

How wonderful You are

Yet when I think and ponder

What love means to You

And what You have done for me

Lord my fallible words melt to nothing

It was You who showed me

Unconditional love

Marred to give me beauty

Died, so I can live eternally

What then?

Should I stop singing?

No! But I will sing of Your love

Of how You saved my life

Not how much I love You

Or what I do for You

Because its incomparable God.

God’s perfection, our imperfection

1. Looking to God who is perfect

At times its easy to sing and ask God to open our eyes that we may see Him in all His majesty and glory and holiness. Well as I asked God this, I realised how great His majesty, how magnificent His glory and how pure His holiness is.

2. Looking at myself who is completely imperfect and far from it

I saw a filthy, unworthy person standing before the King of kings. I felt that I don’t belong there, I can never be His child or Him to be my Father, for ‘the chasm is far too wide’.  My imperfection seemed far too much and far too wide to allow me reach the other side.

3. Looking to Jesus my righteousness!

He took all my imperfection, all my wrongs, all my weaknesses and short comings, nailed it to the cross. As He rose in glory He also clothed me with His perfect righteousness and presented me clean before the Father, that He may ‘look on Jesus and pardon me’.

All three have taught me some great lessons. Looking at GOD for who He is and not who I think He is. This helped me to recognise where I stand in comparison to His majesty and recognising my need for a Saviour. Thank You Jesus for being the way!

‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”‘ – John.14:6

Your Hands

They healed the sick and restored lives

They washed these dirty feet of mine

Your hands stretched on a tree to embrace

And welcome me as a child of God

The hands of Christ are so kind

Gentle and caring, tender with love

That hold me so close

To let go they don’t strive

Now His hands

Are radiant with love

Calling home all who would trust

Those nail pierced hands

That gave peace to my heart

Are still stretched wide

To heal your broken lives.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah.41:10

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you.
16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.” – Isaiah.49:15-16

DO YOU TRUST YOUR LIFE DRIVER?

Why is it so hard to let God be God? Why do we try to take His place?

Why do we not trust Him with our lives, even though He’s shown Himself faithful again and again?

Why do we kind of push Him off the driving seat and try to take control of the steering wheel of our lives when we know well enough that we are not good enough to do anything about it?

It’s amazing how we entrust ourselves to public transport drivers and rest fully assured that they know what they are doing. We don’t sit on the front and try to watch everything they do in order to check every detail of their move and see if they are doing it right, we just sit on the back relax and enjoy the view through the windows. Even the bumpy roads don’t scare us off! We trust them, and inside we have this confidence that “they know what they are doing, and these bumpy roads are nothing to them.” But with God I don’t always see that in my life. I try to take charge of it all, figure out what’s the best way to solve this? But this usually doesn’t help me, as His word says, “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm.46:10, I better just be still and fully believe that He is God and He knows how to drive my life through this bumpy road of life.

Its best for me if I come before Him, that I place my burden under His cross and leave it there. Because often I am tempted to pick it back up again and place it on my shoulder. E.g. I pray about something and then the next minute I am getting so worried about it again. But why do I find it hard to trust God even after I have seen all the good things He has done for me?

Lack of faith! 😦 May God help me!

Rainbow!

God keeps His promises :)

God keeps His promises 🙂

Recently I have been feeling quite tired and weak, a very wrong time to be like this in my view as exams approach. But you know what, God is faithful and what ever we see as something wrong He turns it for our good. Today I was feeling weak and inadequate to deal with the exams, so I just decided to get up from my chair, lift my hands towards heaven and pray.

As I faced towards the window and lifted my hands  and said, “Father,…” I looked and there was a rainbow in the sky! It didn’t rain today, it was just cloudy/ sunny. Good old British weather. Then immediately a verse came to me…

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” – Isaiah.54:10

Waw! I was just stood there, amazed praising God. He is faithful and He keeps His covenant. “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians.1:6

GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!

Waiting…

waiting…

This morning I came across this powerful meditation, written by a lady called Pam Freeman. It has really encouraged me, particularly the first section of the meditation. At times I find it hard to keep on waiting for God, I feel like He has forgotten my case, as I have a few BIG things I want God to answer my prayer on and at least one of them I’m sure is His will, but not the right time yet.

I was meditating on this last night and asked God, “Father, why are You keeping me waiting?”, His answer was “It’s because I love you. Think about your parents, they wouldn’t give you money to buy things for yourself when you were young, because at that moment you didn’t understand the value of money and would have probably spent it all on sweets. As a result you would never understand how to use your money properly and effectively for something useful. In the same way, if I give you what you ask before the time you are mature enough to understand its value, it will not help you but spoil & hurt you. Also you would not value it much because what you get instantly is usually not as precious as what you get after a long wait. If your parents love you so much to discipline you, how much more should I not discipline you too?”

“because the LORD disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in.” – Proverbs.3:12

A MEDITATION contributed by Pam Freeman

Leader : You keep us waiting,

You,
The God of all time
Want us to wait
For the right time in which
To discover who we are,
Where we must go,
Who will be with us,
And what we must do…..

All : So, thank you for the waiting time.

Leader : You keep us looking,
You,
The God of all space,
Want us to look
In the right and wrong places
For signs of hope,
For people who are hopeless,
For visions of a better world
Which will appear
Among the disappointments
Of the world we know…

All : So, thank you for the looking time

Leader : You keep us loving,
You,
The God whose name is love,
Want us to be like you…
To love the loveless and the unlovely and the unlovable,
To love those near us without jealousy or design or threat,
And,
Most difficult of all,
To love ourselves….

All : So, thank you for the loving time.

Leader: And in all this
You keep us.
Through hard questions with no easy answers,
Through failing where we hoped to succeed
And making an impact when we felt we were useless.
Through the patience and the dreams and the love of others,
And through Jesus Christ and His Spirit,
You,
Keep us….

All : So, thank you for the keeping time
and for now and for ever AMEN

It’s a NEW day!

22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
    for His compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
    great is Your faithfulness.” ~Lamentation.3:22-23~

How are you today? Did you wake up and feel like you are being dragged back by yesterday? Or did you wake up and got anxious about tomorrow? Or even what today has in store for you?

Well, the Bible says that His mercies are new every morning! Don’t let yesterday spoil today’s joy, or tomorrow’s worry stop you from living today to the full. God has given you today as a gift, make the most of it. Remember that you are being blessed with another day (others may not have had that chance), so live to make a difference today!

Why not start your day with God? Spend time with Him and receive His grace to give you the strength for the day.

“Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.” ~Psalm.90:14~

Take it one day at a time, walking with God and depending on Him… “Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you;He will never let the righteous be shaken.” ~Psalm.55:22~

Have a glorious day 🙂

“6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – PHILIPPIANS.4:6-7
