Just my heart

A few days ago, while I was doing some shopping, I happened to listen to a line in a song that was on the radio. The guy was singing something along the lines, “I’m in love with what you can give me”.  The world and all its associates are just interested in what they can take from us, as the Bible calls them, they are “ravenous beasts” (Psalm.57:4)

Our mindset sometimes follows that worldly pattern where we think that Christ is after what we can offer, so we run around making all sorts of sin, burnt, peace and praise offerings. We think that we have to do something to please Him.

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” – Isaiah.64:6

“But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” – 1 Samuel.15:22

Here’s God saying, “I’m not interested in all the stuff you do, I just want your heart, your devotion…” and us thinking there’s got to be more than that…

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.” – Luke.10:42

Mary chose to sit at the foot of Jesus, while Martha run around trying to juggle many things.

He simply just wants our heart, then everything else will fall in to place.

This song by Casting Crowns summarises it well…

Humble

The difference between me and a prostitute or a thief is that their struggles are more obvious than the Christian, but in reality I am in need of God’s grace as much as they are. And until we recognize that we will be like the self-righteous, proud Pharisees. Never look down on someone, because God had every right to look down on us, but instead He humbled Himself and became one of us, even lowered to the point where we looked down on Him and spat on His innocent face. Oh the depth of God’s love and grace!

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” – 1Peter.5:5b-6

Open my eyes

Open my eyes oh God

To see Your beauty and majesty

Exalted on high in crowned in glory

Jesus saviour, please let me see

All my works and labours

Are worthless and like filthy rags

Compared to the grace

You have bestowed in my life

I may give my life and all that I have

Without You it’s all vanity of vanities

I may do all good things and keep myself pure

Without You it’s all vanity of vanities

I may do miracles and wonders in Your name

Without You it’s all vanity of vanities

For all things are vanity

Outside the source of their existence

All other lights fade away

In the light of His presence

So open my eyes oh God

To see Your beauty and majesty

Exalted on high in crowned in glory

Jesus saviour, please let me see

For when I behold Your glorious splendour

All other things fall in the right place.

Letting go

In life when we are faced with challenges, our first reaction is often “ok, how do I deal with this?” We try to work out and calculate the best formula to solve our issues; but we fail miserably. We  realize that things are not in our hands to fix, we have to take them to the Carpenter, who turns a dead wood into a chair, where kings and queens seat.

So today like me, have you been trying to solve things with your own mind and your own strength? Let it go, let God take care of it for you. Its in the best hands possible. I have learnt that I need to stop striving, I need to stop laboring to see if things would work. Its like trying to use a certain machine you just bought and you have no idea how to use it, but you can’t be bothered to read the manual too; so you keep on sweating, trying to fix it and make it work, but the key is just to follow the Manual and you will be fine. SO let us read the greatest Manual of life- the Bible, if we listen to His voice and let Him guide us, what seems like a mountain before our eyes will be brought low as a valley.

“Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.” – Isaiah.40:4

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” – Isaiah.64:6

“10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.” – Psalm.46:10-11
