Rest at His feet

May the grace of the Lord Jesus, who was and is and is to come be with you all dear readers!

As this is the first blog of 2019, I wondered what to share with you and decided that what the Lord is teaching me of what really matters in life is this topic of resting at His feet.  We often find ourselves running around here and there, some of it is what we call God’s work and the rest just trying to live our lives. How often do we take a spiritual sabbath? How often do we find ourselves taking our shoes off (a picture of leaving the world behind), forgetting all our worries and just be at the feet of Jesus.

There were a couple of ladies in the Bible who sat at Jesus’ feet and found rest and healing. One of them is Mary, Martha’s sister. Mary knew that more than anything in life, her relationship with her God and just listening to His word was the most essential, and the Lord applauded her for that.

Another one is the woman “who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.” – (Luke.7:37-38) This woman knew the healing to be found by pouring out her heart at His feet and indeed she was forgiven much, because she loved much.

What do we learn from these women then? There is a pure joy, delight, and abundant feast to be found when we sit at His feet. There is rest from all our labours, worries and fears as we hear His voice and awe on His might. Jesus knew what it meant to rest in His Father, sleeping through the stormy sea (Mark 4:35-41). And when we practice such faith, our trust in Him grows and we can sleep through any storm in life. All glory to Him!
